We are also in need of helpers for the yard sale, so scroll down if you can come and help - still have spots open - remember you NEED to get your 4 hours in for the month. You have 10 days to get these hours in!

UPDATE - We have been trying the texting method on the sign up genious but we have already exceeded the texts limit. Thankfully, I (Alicia) just paid for 1 month for a real trial instead of a year. This will not work for us. I did figure out that I can group text from my phone and it will be a blind copy, so I will be using this for now. It is free and since I can group text it won't be so time consuming. I will still continue to do the emails for now with Sign up genious and we can decide if we want to continue paying for this or if we want to go back to using regular email (free) and link the blog which is what we were doing 2 weeks ago and it worked. I will send both Sign up Genious as well as old method today to make sure we are getting everyone.

Corn Glean - Friday 8/20

CORN GLEAN - Albany

CANCELLED

Mask Mandate effective TODAY 8/19/21

Mask Mandate effective TODAY 8/19/21

Benton County has extended that approach to outdoor situations, effective immediately. The county’s Board of Commissioners approved an order at its Tuesday meeting that requires all individuals 5 and older, regardless of vaccination status, to wear mask outdoors in public settings in which social distance of 6 feet cannot be maintained.

Please be advised that we do need to adhere to the rules of Benton County and if you are close to others you will need to wear a mask.

Please be advised that we are following the CDC and the State of Oregon guidelines (and now Benton County). If you choose to wear a mask that is not in compliance, you will not be allowed into the building. Below is a good guide to the do's and don'ts of masks.

SNAP Increase - Information Sharing

SNAP participants will see a significant increase over pre-pandemic benefit levels
Please share this information with your members and anyone else that might be interested.

  • In Oregon, it's projected that this will translate to a $337m annual  increase in SNAP coming to Oregonians, a 27% increase in total benefits over pre-pandemic levels. (source: USDA state table)
  • This is in recognition that SNAP benefits are calculated based on the "Thrifty Food Plan," which has roots in the Great Depression and hasn't been revised since 1975. The Thrifty Food Pan is widely recognized as outdated and insufficient for families.
  • This will start in October. There will be variation on benefit levels on a household level, yet to be determined.
  • SNAP benefits will be volatile in the coming months as we do not yet know when pandemic emergency allotments will expire. It's also true that many households will see a decrease in SNAP benefits when emergency allotments expire, even with this new increase. This is because pandemic emergency allotments provided significantly higher benefit increases to many households.
