Turkeys for Thanksgiving? Draw for Tahini. -

Hello families,

For the past years, we have been a partner with the Thanksgiving box giveaway at the Fairgrounds. This is the one where families drive by to get their food boxes. This year, that program has opted to not do this due to COVID-19. They will be doing $20.00 gift cards through the food banks. I believe it is a first come first serve basis.

We do have grant funds to purchase food for our members. We would like to know if you would like to use our grant funds to buy families turkeys for Thanksgiving? Please vote by Friday, October 30th at 5pm.

We also have 2 buckets of Tahini and if you would like to be entered into the drawing, please enter your name on the form. Draw will happen Friday at 5pm.

No Politics, Religion, or Campaigning

In order to keep our site well balanced, we ask that everyone maintain a No Politics, No Religion, and No Campaigning on the Philomath Community Services property. If we hear any of this happening, we will ask you to leave the site for the day. This includes campaigning for Philomath Community Services / Gleaners positions as per Linn-Benton Food Share rules.

Voting Options - WE NEED YOUR OPINIONS and your vote!

 Voting Options

Nominations are due by November 5th at 11:59pm

At our last meeting, we discussed how we will do the voting as COVID is a new time for everything. It was suggested that we ask LBFS to help us. LBFS is not available to be part of this for us.

Here are some suggestions we have come up with

1. All votes can be done online on google forms as we do other voting. This is free of charge. We can have members call the folks that do not have access to be online to get their votes. The results can be shared online with this blog with pictures.

2. Voting can be done in person at the member meeting on November 12th. We would have paper voting forms and 3 members (whom are not one of the members being voted on) will be asked to count the votes. We could have an hour where if people wanted to vote, they would call in their votes to someone - maybe a member who is not on the form would volunteer to be the call taker.

3. We use a 3rd party voting system and pay for it. This would require we share your emails and/or phone numbers from what I can see. This would also cost at least $10.

4. The last option was to ask a local pastor or teacher to host this, but we still need to decide on HOW to do the voting during covid.

Please take the time to VOTE on how you think voting will best suit our membership this year:

Voting policy on how many votes per household

Please click the link and vote by Saturday at 5pm.

Conversations at our meetings:

What if all parties in the household do not agree, shouldn't they be allowed to have their own opinions?

Since we sign up for gleaners by household with a head of household, shouldn't we vote per household. If a family has 4 adults in the home, should they get 4 votes vs a single family. Why does one family get more weight on a vote?

Salmon Distribution Sign Up! Pickup 10/14 @ 4pm

Bring your own containers to haul fish. Suggestions are coolers, buckets, totes. Plastic bags or trash bags often rip right through. Please sign up by 3pm on 10/14. IMPORTANT: Please put in how many fish you would like to get (if we have enough) and put it in the comments section. You can ignore the part where it asks how many attending (that is just on the survey). Pickup time is at 4pm.

It will be first come first serve, signing up will help us decide how many people want fish (so that everyone can get at least the same amount and more if requested). We will do our best - but sign up is ESSENTIAL!
