We need your opinion - Members please vote on this and help us decide.

 Members,

We need your HELP! We don't know the right way to handle the following and decided this is really something that all members have a say in. Your vote will count and Alicia will post the winning opinion. Qu

We got in 2 high value items for our program that were donated for the sale happening next weekend. The problem is that these items are of higher value than just $10.00. Our sale is pay what you can afford or what you think the item is worth. Questions have come to us what we should really do. There are pros and cons to all options.

So, instead of Patty and Alicia making a decision, we have decided that this should be up to the membership and how they would like it handled.

Items: 1 nice TV and 1 playstation

We have 3 choices :

1. Keep it in the sale and put it out Saturday morning. First come first serve. Could this go for $1.00? Should this go for $1.00? Questions that are hard to answer.

2. Pull it from the sale and put it in a drawing that anyone can enter and no money is involved.

3. Put it up for BID. Alicia would come up with a way to make a bidding system that would be free but like an online auction.

Please vote as we need the members help on this issue. Voting will stay open until Monday evening at 9pm.

We will post the results on Tuesday.

Last Saturday of the Month - 3 Programs open

Tomorrow is the last Saturday of the Month.

What does that mean?

Gleaners is open regular shopping hours!

Food bank is open 12 - 3pm

JKK is open 12 - 3pm.

Philomath Community Services has offered for all 3 programs to be open at the same time to help our community. This gives our community members a weekend day to shop at both Food Bank and JKK.

This does mean that we are more busy with people, cars, etc at the site from 12-3pm. If you shop at the Philomath Food Bank - they offer a 2nd shopping experience on the last Saturday of the month for the community. The Food Bank often has different foods that gleaners and it might be worth a shopping trip to discover what they have. Our Food Bank Program Managers and volunteers are wonderful and would love to help you shop there.

JKK still offers the one time shopping experience. This is a great program to help our children and families with clothing, shoes, diapers, wipes. One of our gleaners actually runs the Saturday at Junes Kid Closet. Make sure to say hello to Amanda and get in some shopping.

Dollar Dayz (Yard Sale) - Monday Volunteers sign up (May 8th)

Realized we could use volunteers to man the Dollar Dayz on Monday too! Sign up here and get those hours in and help the program!

We are planning our first dollar dayz of the season. Dollar days is a gleaners yard sale. Members bring in unwanted items they do not want (please have them clean and ready to put out). No items can be items we have received as part of a distribution.

No children allowed. We value the children of the group and being that this is in the parking lot, we need to put safety first. We do not want children running in the parking lot with many cars coming and going during the day. We only need the number of people listed to manage the sale, please do not bring any more than who is signed up.

We do not price our items. We will have people manning the sale but our sale is "pay what you think the item is worth, or what you can afford".

Furniture Drawing - Ends Tuesday at 5pm

Drawing:

Note for new folks: we do drawings for larger items that we may have just a few of so that it is fair for all members. The drawing is done online and a computer generates winners. Sometimes there is a limit to how many items you can enter for. Just read the instructions and you should be good.

You will be notified of the win by text or email as soon as I (Alicia) can do it.

Dollar Dayz (Yard Sale) volunteers needed

 Hello all,

Last year, we were able to bring in about $100 or more from each sale. This helps our program pay for the truck we rent for Thursdays, for gas to pick up our donations, etc.
The day has been set for May 6th.

We need volunteers. In order to do this volunteer slot, you need to be a welcoming personality, you need to be social, you need to be kind.

For Donations:

If you would like to donate items, please bring them in on Friday May 5th between 9-12. If this time doesn't work, for you, please contact Patty to set up a drop off time. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT just drop items at the door.

Monday shopping sign up for April 24th

Sign up for Shopping for Monday. Please sign up by 9pm on Sunday. Any changes after that you will need to text Alicia.

Message from Patty: Hello to our magnificent group

I want to thank everyone who joined us for our bi-monthly member meeting. It was the largest attendance to one of our meetings since before Covid. We were able to talk through issues together as a group to find solutions that will benefit all of is and just make our group stronger.

I want to discuss few items.

The first is the return of cans and bottles. We ask that everyone that wants to donate bottles and cans to bring them to the site and be prepared to empty your donation into one of the blue bags at the site.

If a household chooses to participate, they will receive 1/2 of volunteer time up to 2 hours per month. The household that returns the bag may receive 1 hour for this volunteer time.

Another item that recently came up is shopping on a day that is not a distribution. Linn-Benton Foodshare only allows shopping on designated distribution days.

Lastly, I understand that life can sometimes be stressful and can make us not react as kindly as we normally would do. I ask that we continue to make this a safe spot and think before we react if it is possible.
I continue to be humbled by the goodness of our members.

Thank you
Patty

Policy Change / Update

We have updated the following on our Policy and Procedures. Please be aware and make sure you read the policy. The link on the blog is up to date.

1.1.2. Adoptee: An Adoptee Household is a household where no member is either physically or mentally capable of performing the gleaning program’s hours of required service. Adoptee households are encouraged to help but are not required to put in volunteer hours. Adoptee households have the same rights as gleaning households. Adoptees are expected to vote and help with fundraisers when possible. Adoptees are subject to periodic review on a case-by-case basis.

1.1.3 Conditional Adoptee: A Conditional Adoptee is a member who signs up as a gleaner, but due to a pregnancy, death of a household member, or a prolonged illness will be granted a 6-month waiver from volunteer service or gleaning.

Volunteer Opportunities Week 4/19 to 4/25

PLEASE READ : Changes in Volunteering:

1. Membership household can only sign up for 2 desk volunteer (Check in/out) slots per month.

2. The desk job on Monday (1st shift) will change to shopping after the volunteer shift to ease the bottleneck at the start of the day.

Old Business

  • -How do we get more people to volunteer?

  • -Gleaning coordinator. Gleaning importance.

  • -OSU extension agency program started

  • -Shopping sign up: Please remember to sign up under your last name (or your group last name). It is important that we rotate as best we can. We know this isn’t a perfect science but we try. The rule of thumb for signups is your name category, then anytime after, then you can go up from your slot. Please do not sign up earlier than your slot unless approved by Patty or Alicia.

  • -We are currently at 6 hours. Many people have asked. Patty – will we be going up to 7?

  • -Clean up shift requirements?

  • -Limits to how many times you can sign up to do a desk job.

  • -Bottle deposit funds will go up. Right not the funds get put into an account and then we need to request they cut us a check. Currently it has $508.90. Some of this was from years ago and we didn’t know it was there.

 New Business

  • Food shortage -

  • Cooler update- They have started on this process. We don’t have much more info from the board. The cooler may not be usable but we will have the back covered area for storage.

  • Open Questions and Answers -- What's going well, what’s not?

  • Dollar Days are set to be May 6th. If you are interested in coordinating and running this sale (at the site)-please contact Patty.

  • Inspection in April – we will need volunteers to clean _______________________.

REMINDERS:

  • Gleaners need to sign up at least once for a cleanup shift

  • You are allowed to volunteer more than 6 hours per month.

Next monthly member meeting will be June 13, 2023.
