3. If you drive a vehicle for ANY gleaner purposes other than coming to shop, we need you to sign a release of liability. This will include if you drive a personal car to a glean this summer, if you drive a personal vehicle to pick up at stores, etc. We MUST have this release of liability for any and all who want to do gleans or do pickups ASAP. We have them in the office, so please ask when you are there next. 

4. We could use hangers for the sale this weekend if you have any. Please bring to the site. 

Fridge Pickup Thursday - Help needed

Fridge Pickup Thursday    

Can you pick up a fridge for us in Philomath/Corvallis Area and bring to gleaners? We need someone (or 2) to pickup a fridge that is being donated for our program. If you had your own vehicle to use that would work as we don't know if it will fit in the van. 

If it can be done before Noon tomorrow, that would be great. If you can do this, please contact Patty.

Plea for clean donations for the sale only

Donations for the yard sale: Please only donate clean items to the sale. Our crew who cleaned up after the last sale spent quite a bit of time laundering smelly clothing and cleaning household items which were dirty and gross in order to donate to Vina Moses and the Arc.  

You still have time to donate items for this weekend. Drop off donations on Wednesday 9-12, Thursday afternoon 1:00 - 4:00, and Friday 9-12.

NEW MEMBERS: We will sometimes hold items donated back and have a drawing for the items so that all members have a fair and equal opportunity to win the items. If you do it and choose too many items, the person who is doing the drawing will be choosing which 2 items will be entered for. Please make sure you plan to shop the days scheduled as we do not keep items and items not picked up will be put back into the next drawing.

Shopping Mindfulness:

We have been seeing a great reduction in produce. This is not just a Philomath Gleaners issue as all of the gleaner groups are seeing a trend in reduced donations. With growth comes change. 

Today, we ask you shop with mindfulness. We do not want to put limits on produce so we will try to ask for mindful shopping. 

We want to share some data. One Saturday this month, we had 84 families shop and the following Monday we had 53 families shop. This is 137 families in 1 week needing food from our program. When we only get in a limited quantity of produce and it is gone halfway through the shopping day from folks taking bulk amounts of one item or bulk produce, we have nothing for the rest of our members. 

Below is a photo of tubs that were full of produce at the start and by 1:30 they looked like this. We still had until 4:15 to go for shoppers.

Volunteer Hours - 24 hour wait period

Dear members,

We have grown again this past month and foresee that we will continue to grow. At this time, we do not see more opportunities for volunteering than we have now. 

Our solution is is a sincere ask. If you have your full 6 hours in for the month, please wait 24 hours after the sign up is posted to allow for others to sign up who need to get their hours in for the month. 

In addition: We are going to change the alternate hours (For the summer) and allow up to 3 hours of Alternate hours for those that need it. So, for your 6 volunteer hours, 3 hours can be done babysitting while someone else volunteers, bringing in bottles to deposit, or volunteering in the garden.

Volunteers Needed: Delivery to our homebound adoptees

We need a team to volunteer and commit weekly to do our Homebound Adoptee deliveries. 

This job would be coming to PCS and loading the van with already prepared bags and boxes and delivering to our homebound folks. This will take an hour to 1.5 hours per Saturday. Ideally a team of 2 people who can do this would be great but if you are willing to take the lead, we can get a volunteer to help weekly on the sign up genious. Please contact Patty if you are interested. 

Adoptee Policy - Update

Please see the bold section below for the updated Adoptee Policy. 

1.1.2. Adoptee: An Adoptee Household is a household where no member is either physically or mentally capable of performing the gleaning program’s hours of required service. Adoptee households are encouraged to help but are not required to put in volunteer hours. Adoptee households have the same rights as gleaning households. Adoptees are expected to vote and help with fundraisers when possible. Adoptees are subject to periodic review on a case-by-case basis. If you are able to have a job you are not an Adoptee.

 Hello all, 

The results are in and we will be doing an auction. Alicia is out of town for a few days this week, so it may start on the 8th or 9th.
