SNAP participants will see a significant increase over pre-pandemic benefit levels

- In Oregon, it's projected that this will translate to a $337m annual increase in SNAP coming to Oregonians, a 27% increase in total benefits over pre-pandemic levels. (source: USDA state table)
- This is in recognition that SNAP benefits are calculated based on the "Thrifty Food Plan," which has roots in the Great Depression and hasn't been revised since 1975. The Thrifty Food Pan is widely recognized as outdated and insufficient for families.
- This will start in October. There will be variation on benefit levels on a household level, yet to be determined.
- SNAP benefits will be volatile in the coming months as we do not yet know when pandemic emergency allotments will expire. It's also true that many households will see a decrease in SNAP benefits when emergency allotments expire, even with this new increase. This is because pandemic emergency allotments provided significantly higher benefit increases to many households.
